How Do Laser Skin Treatments Work? | BBL & MOXI

If you’re like most people, you probably have found yourself wishing you could reverse the clock and hold onto your youthful, wrinkle-free skin forever. Or maybe you have kicked yourself from time to time for not starting a healthy skin routine sooner in life. Thanks to modern laser skin resurfacing technology, however, it isn’t as impossible as it may seem to help our skin look as radiant and healthy as ever.

What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Thanks to advancements in laser skin treatments and technology, it is easier than ever to treat fine lines and wrinkles, age and sun spots, uneven skin tone, uneven texture, sun-damaged skin, and mild to moderate acne scarring. How does laser skin resurfacing work, though?

Laser skin treatments use heat and light work to gently remove damaged skin layers. As that damaged skin is removed, your body naturally begins producing collagen—a protein responsible for the strength and structure of our skin. This collagen is used by our body to help treat and repair the treatment area, which results in fresh, healthy, and renewed skin.

Two popular laser skin resurfacing treatments are BBL and Moxi, both of which are offered at Advanced Aesthetics. Even though these two treatments have similarities—both do wonders for skin rejuvenation—they also have unique differences that are important to consider when choosing which treatment is right for your skin and goals.

BBL

BBL, which stands for BroadBand Light, is a great treatment option for anyone who is interested in primarily addressing uneven skin tone and discoloration. BBL uses gentle light energy to heat the upper layers of skin to stimulate regeneration and repair. As a result, the skin will become clearer, smoother, and with a more even coloration. If you are someone who is interested in reducing the look of sun spots, redness, uneven pigmentation, or small facial veins, BBL may be the right fit.

Moxi

While BBL laser skin resurfacing is designed specifically to target pigmentation concerns, Moxi is designed to address skin texture.

Moxi laser treatments use the power of laser energy to help boost skin’s natural collogen production. A non-ablative (nonwounding) laser is used to promote new cell growth and reduce unwanted pigmentation and texture. As a result, skin looks smoother and healthier with the added benefit of no downtime typically associated with more aggressive laser procedures.

If your main concerns are acne scarring, wrinkles, and uneven skin texture, Moxi would be a great option for you. Moreover, Moxi treatments typically run less than 30 minutes, making it a great and easy addition to anyone’s regular skin care maintenance routine.

Can you get BBL and Moxi?

The short answer is, YES! By combining Moxi’s ability to improve the skins surface and texture with BBL’s power to even out hyperpigmentation and discoloration, you create a powerhouse that offers unbeatable skin renewal results. By combining treatments, you optimize your skin’s overall health and radiance.

Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Hurt?

Laser skin treatments may sound scary at first, but they are nothing to be afraid of! According to the Mayo Clinic, laser skin resurfacing is a safe and effective way to improve overall skin appearance and reduce the look of fine lines, discoloration, uneven texture, and scarring.

If you do choose to book a laser resurfacing treatment, there are some potential side effects to be aware of. These side effects include:

  • Redness and minor swelling: Like most facial treatments, laser skin resurfacing can cause mild irritation that may lead to minor redness and swelling of the treatment area.

  • Changes in skin color: Laser skin treatments can cause temporary hyperpigmentation as well as temporary hypopigmentation.

  • Slight chance of infection: both nonablative and ablative laser resurfacing may cause viral flare-ups. Typically, these flare-ups happen when a viral or fungal infection is already present on the skin before treatment.

  • Mild acne: post-treatment balms and creams may cause slight acne flare-ups. These flare-ups typically go away once the skin has healed.

Rest assured that though side effects can occur, last skin resurfacing treatments are incredibly safe and offer a gentle alternative to more aggressive anti-aging procedures.

How Long Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Last?

It is important to know that recipients of laser skin resurfacing, no matter the treatment type (BBL or Moxi), will most likely need a series of appointments to achieve optimal results. We recommend clients wait several weeks between treatments to ensure the skin is fully healed and ready for another round. In between these sessions, clients will notice their skin gradually improving over time. Discoloration, sun spots, scars, and redness will begin to fade as glowing, healthy skin emerges. Clients with visible aging will notice their fine lines and wrinkles begin to fade as their skin become smoother, with more uniform pigmentation.

As for how long the results will last, we have good news. After your series of appointments, you can expect your skin to appear younger, healthier, and smoother for up to five years. We do recommend clients maintain a regular treatment schedule for “touch-ups.” This ensures their results last for years to come.
